Saving on Your Energy Bills

Marks and Spencers
My energy bills last year were atrocious. I stayed in a private let, were the landlord had no intention in investing in the property. The town’s house looked great when we moved in the warm month of June, a lick of paint and some homely touches and the place looked good.
Winter Arrived
Once winter arrived at the end of October we started to notice niggling things about the house. When it started pelting down with rain we could see brown patches appearing on the ceiling, oh god – a leaking roof. The next thing we noticed was that behind all the floors and walls there was no insulation, oh god – the place is freezing.
Started Turning up The Heating
As you do when you are cold – you turn the heating up, as we did this we started struggling with the bills, over the course of the winter we were spending about £120 per month on gas and electricity.
I am Out of Here
After all of this we decided to move, I now can’t believe how much of a difference our utility bills are, halved them straight away. The differences a well insulated house and a serviced boiler can make are huge. Not only are we saving a good bit of cash compared to our last house, we are also doing our bit for the environment.
Choosing our New Supplier
The first thing we did when we moved was to look for a new energy supplier. One that was kind to the environment. We found the best one to be Marks and Spencers gas and electricity – Marks and Spensers?? (they dont sell energy – they do food – not just any food) that’s what I thought, then I discovered it was true. Marks and Spencer’s actually do sell energy. Once I dug a little further I found they have joined forces with Scottish and Southern Energy. They say they are committed to helping the environment whilst saving you money at the same time.
We joined up and it has been great so far, they have energy calculators and other cool gadgets so you can monitor how much energy you use. They have a great challenge were you have to save 10% of energy year on year and they will give you £15 of Marks and Spenser’s vouchers, if you do achieve this they recon you will save around £100 per year on your energy bills – not bad.
Saving money and saving the planet – what more could one ask for?
